After a solid season with The Fyre Place & Patio Shop OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Bromley Automotive, it's safe to say Trevor Thompson is reeling to get back on-track this year.
"Mostly just excited for the new race season," he said. "Can't wait to get out to the track again! Should be some new people in the class again and sounding like it will be a great year!"
When looking at the schedule, Thompson admits it's hard to pick a track he's most looking forward to, as he enjoys each of them. However, he does have some "unfinished business" at Delaware Speedway and "will be working a little extra hard on both weekends for a good finish."
Despite putting together a season where he placed eighth in the standings, it fell short of expectations.
"Last year wasn't the season we were hoping for," he admitted. "We had some engine problems which kept me from running a few races that we really didn't want to miss. That being said, though, still had a lot of fun, and learned more again!"
Now going into the new season, Thompson says it will be critical to learn what the new Cobra Racing tires are like on these cars.
"I think, though, with the team I have behind me that we can get these tires figured out a bit faster then some," he commented. "Between that and keeping up with all the work in the shop to make sure everything is where it should be, we will be showing up with a fast car every week!"
For Thompson, the Hot Rod class is something that intrigued him due to a combination of the rule package, and competitive nature.
"The hot rod class really is the only one like it with the rule package they have," he explained. "It lets you run old chassis and no bump stops and make it so everyone can be competitive without spending so much money on that. Also, I think it makes for much better racing and is for sure more of a style of car i have a lot of experience driving! I do like travelling to the different tracks, as well; it makes it a lot of fun. Dave (Gainforth also) works very hard to make this the best class he can! Makes a huge difference over what other classes and tracks are doing!"
Choosing to run a Camaro was an easy choice for Thompson, as he has always been a fan of the body style and had a few of his own over the years.
For Thompson, he got his start in racing through his father helping out an all pro car in the 1990s, and hanging around the track. When he turned 11, he would get behind the wheel of a mini truck at Full Throttle Motor Speedway.
Since then, he has made a lot of memories, including a memorable win at Jukasa Motor Speedway.
"It's hard to just pick one, but I think it will always be the win at Jukasa the last night it was open," he commented. "Not sure anything will top that - unless they open it up again."
