PREVIEW: The Fyre Place & Patio Shop OSCAAR Hot Rods at Peterborough Speedway

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario ---- 0.019 seconds. That was the difference between the top-two at the finish line when the checkered flag waved for The Fyre Place & Patio Shop OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Bromley Automotive at Peterborough Speedway last summer after a thrilling battle for the win.

Knowing the shows the toughest 1/3-mile in the province has put in through the past several years, it is no surprise why the drivers are excited to return there this weekend.

There are several drivers to watch in the field that will be contending for the win once the The Car Guy green flag waves.

Trevor Thompson has ran well at Peterborough Speedway, as evident by picking up a sixth-place finish last summer. The driver of the No. 00 Camaro has been consistent with the tour, scoring seven top-10's in his last eight series appearances, with 26 top-10's in 31 career starts.

Tyler Hawn enters the weekend to improve upon how his season has started with a pair of seventh-place finishes in the first two events. He leads all competitors with five trips to victory lane at Peterborough, including a top-five in each of his last three appearances highlighted by a victory in the 2025 Autumn Colours Classic.

Drew Richardson has been consistent throughout his OSCAAR career, scoring seven top-10's in his last 10 series appearances.

Ryan Cowan has shown speed in the past with the tour, as evident by posting 20 top-10 finishes in 53 career starts. His last appearances with the tour at Peterborough in the fall of 2024 resulted in a 10th-place finish.

Steve Book knows what it takes to get the job done at Peterborough, as he was the winner in the close finish last summer at the 1/3-mile over Dan Archibald. He has also started off this year on a good note, picking up a fourth and sixth.

Thomas Wunsch has been the driver to watch to start off 2026, as evident by a third at Sauble Speedway before picking up his first career series victory at Delaware Speedway. he has shown speed at Peterborough with a pair of top-10's in his last three appearances, including a fifth last summer.

The father-son Brian Wilson and Brian Wilson Jr. duo have been solid this year, scoring a pair of 11th-place finishes in the first two events. The father knows his way around at Peterborough with no results worse than ninth in the last three races, including a fourth last summer.

Rob Bromley knows his way around Peterborough Speedway, as evident by a second and a seventh in his last two appearances. He began the season with a runner-up finish at Sauble Speedway.

Tom Walters was fast at Sauble Speedway, running inside the top-five until mechanical issues took him out of the running. He was fast with the tour previously at Peterborough, scoring a fifth-place finish at last year's Autumn Colours Classic. 

The 2026 rookie class of drivers will certainly be catching the attention of several fans in attendance, as these competitors come with a variety of past experience in racing.

Both Jacob Booth and Daniel Hawn proved the battle for Rookie of the Year honors will be on-going all season, as evident by both scoring top-10 finishes in the first two events of the season.

Ayden McNicol made the jump into the Hot Rods following a successful season of Bone Stock competition at Full Throttle Motor Speedway, and showed promise at Sauble in putting together a solid day to place 12th.

Lane Zardo may be making his first appearance with the tour at Peterborough Speedway, but has visited victory lane there previously with a super stock. He kicked off his 2026 Hot Rod campaign in a big way with a podium finish at Delaware Speedway.

Ben McPherson makes the jump to the tour after a successful couple seasons at Sunset Speedway. He has shown speed this year, as evident by a home-track win at Sauble Speedway.

It may be Kevin Cornelius' first appearance in the Hot Rod division, but do not let that fool you. The past JRS Auctions OSCAAR Super Late Models presented by Just Foam It Champion has got it done at Peterborough in a super late previously.
