Luke Gignac Hopeful to Competitive Each Week with Hot Rods

After a solid campaign with The Fyre Place & Patio Shop OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Bromley Automotive last season, Luke Gignac is itching to get back to the track in 2026.

“I really just hope to be competitive everywhere we go,” Gignac shared. “I just really want to try and make all of the OSCAAR races as currently I don’t really have any sponsorship, but I’m just looking forward to racing as much as I can.”

Admittedly, Gignac is excited to get back to Peterborough Speedway this year, but also hopes to be able to make the trip to Delaware Speedway to “enjoy the high banks and the speed.”

Gignac had a solid 2025 campaign with the series, placing inside the top-10 in each of his three appearances, including a third in the season finale at Peterborough Speedway.

“Actually, it went well,” Gignac reflected. “I don't have a lot of sponsors, I don't have a lot of money in the car, (and) the engine is from 2008. So to finish third at Peterborough, that was like winning a feature in that car.

“We are currently working on a new engine - should be ready hopefully for opening night. If not, still have the old faithful in there.”

For Gignac, the OSCAAR Hot Rod division feels right for him right now in his career as it reminds him of back when he started in the thunder car division at Sunset Speedway and Barrie Speedway in the 1990s.

“The competition's really stiff,” Gignac spoke of the Hot Rods. “Like you've got a lot of fast cars, and a couple of slower cars that are getting faster at each race and that's how it's supposed to be. But the competition is tough. Anybody can really win a race at any time; it's kind of nice.”

Gignac has not just stuck with the Hot Rods under the OSCAAR banner, though. He ran a couple seasons in the Modifieds driving for ADAMS Motorsports, capturing a series championship in 2017.

“It feels like it was a lot of years ago,” Gignac joked. “No, it's great. Allan and Diana asking me to drive that modified was the greatest thing to go on after winning the championship at Barrie in the Thunder Car - well, Super Stock, whatever you want to call those cars. I was kind of up in the air on what I was doing so I got to jump into a really fast race car right and go to every track that I'd never been to, so it was great.”
