After getting his feet wet last year with the JRS Auctions OSCAAR Super Late Models presented by Just Foam It, Dustyn Mombourquette is ready to get back to the track in 2026.
“I can’t wait to get back to the race track this season,” he said. “I think the series is headed in the right direction and it should make for a great show for everyone involved.”
After experiencing success in late model competition, Mombourquette made the jump up to super lates last season, running a limited schedule through the summer.
“My biggest takeaways and probably the most obvious one is just how fast the cars are and how competitive the series is,” he explained. “In the short amount of time we spent in super lates last season we definitely learned a lot for what we need to improve this coming season.”
Mombourquette went on to add that in comparing both super late to the pro late model, the only similarity is both being types of racecars.
“Super late models are a totally different animal,” he added. “The power of the super late models is unlike anything else that we have around here.”
His time on the tour may have been short, but he proved he has the speed as evident by picking up a podium finish in the Don Biederman Memorial at Flamboro Speedway.
“It meant a lot,” Mombourquette reflected. “In only our second super race ever at a track that I’ve personally always struggled adapting to, it was really rewarding to get that result! Racing in Don’s memory definitely made it extra special from having his family there to the really unique information board trophies that were given. It was awesome.”
When he was not behind the wheel of a super late model last season, Mombourquette was back in his Pro Late, and successful at it. The summer months led to him scoring his most memorable career win to date at Sunset Speedway. He admitted it felt good to “finally break through after a pretty tough start to the year” and get to victory lane.
“It definitely helped get our season back on track,” he continued. “From then on, we didn’t finish any worse than fourth after coming from last at Autumn Colours (at Peterborough Speedway).”
Since then, Mombourquette has gone to work this off-season with belief he has done the necessary work. The team purchased a chassis from Chris Milwain mid-way through last season, with Mombourquette spending this past winter with his dad building the car.
The preparation behind the scenes has him excited for all the tracks this season on the 2026 tour schedule, but admittedly, he is most excited to return to Peterborough Speedway.
With the combination of experience and putting the right pieces together, hopefully more success is set to come his way this summer.
