After having one of his most successful seasons to date, it’s not a surprise to see Wally Wilson is excited for the 2026 Overkill Enterprises OSCAAR Modified season.
“I think we're going to have a good season,” he said. “We're going to have a lot of cars that are going to be fast so we got a lot of competition. I think we're gonna hopefully be good all around. I mean, last year, I was only really good at one track so…..
“We ended up pretty good. Like with the OSCAAR tour, we were pretty good - like kind of figured it out near the end and were decent. Then obviously Sunset (Speedway), we were good every week so hopefully we're good every week everywhere this year but we'll see.”
Wilson capped off last year on the OSCAAR Modified tour with a top-five finish in the standings with four top-five’s and eight top-10’s in the eight races.
He also ran the full Sunset Speedway home track schedule last year, visiting victory lane on multiple occasions en route to being crowned the 2026 Modified Track Champion.
“Honestly it still hasn't really sunk in,” Wilson admitted. “Like it's pretty cool. We've worked hard for years and finally everything just aligned and got with the right people and it all came together. I just had to kind of race good and be smart and it worked out.”
Wilson did not stop there, running the Delaware Speedway schedule as well. He will once again be running the half-mile home-track program in 2026 on top of the full OSCAAR Modified slate.
“Honestly I already know I'm gonna be at a racetrack regardless of whether I'm racing or not so if we have the option to run more races, it's better,” he commented. “I get better as we go and kind of learn the car better and learn what to do and then we go and run well. It kind of works out; the confidence is there as a result.”
As Wilson looks to put himself in contention more often, he says the key will be being a little more aggressive this year.
“We have the speed now,” he commented “It's just more so like I'm too nice. I don't push for a pass. I just kind of let people in and don't push too hard, so try and use the bumper a little more this year I guess and see how it goes.”
Looking ahead at the schedule, Wilson notes he’s most excited to get back to Peterborough Speedway in having a feature win there previously, but Sauble Speedway is also circled being it’s his home track.
Wilson will also have a keen eye this year on the Hot Rods, in knowing his family’s company and primary sponsor, The Fyre Place & Patio Shop, is the title division sponsor.
“It's definitely cool,” Wilson commented. “Growing up, Sean used to run a Junior Late Model at Sauble and The Fyre Place sponsored them. It was always cool as a kid to see that and he was always winning. Now that it's on my cards, it's really cool.
“Then to see it when you go and watch the hot rods on every car, it kind of makes me feel like a kid again seeing it on everyone's car. It's cool.”
