Trevor Monaghan To Return to OSCAAR Super Late Model Competition

After being away for awhile, Trevor Monaghan will be returning back to JRS Auctions OSCAAR Super Late Model presented by Just Foam It competition in 2026.

“I'm really excited to be back with OSCAAR,” he said. “I feel like the supers are what I was always meant to race. I had fun racing other series over the years, but I'm glad to be back. My son Rogan is going to test the car throughout the year; if his lap times are better than mine, I'll let him race the car next year.”

The reason for his return is simple, as he says a good car became available and he was ready to make the move. Additionally, the shortened schedule for the Supers works for him in allowing for family time while racing for a championship. 

“(The) Goals are to build a good notebook on the new car, keep it clean, race for top-five's every race, get our first super win,” he added.

There are plenty of exciting dates on the schedule, including the season opener at Flamboro Speedway with the Don Biederman Memorial. Flamboro is a track that admittedly Monaghan has always loved, but that doesn’t mean he can’t wait for the other events, either.

“I raced Sauble (Speedway) for the first time a few years ago in Al MacLean's super and finished second to John Cadman in the heat race, and 10th in the feature,” he recalled. “The only time I've ever raced Peterborough was 2009 in Gary Elliott's car. We finished sixth in a stout field of late models at Autumn Colours. We raced in the Summer Shootout at Delaware in Gary's car as well against Kyle and Kurt Busch - started 27th and finished ninth, ahead of some big names including the Busch Brothers.”

While Monaghan has been away from super late model competition, it does not mean he has been out of the seat. He has raced a variety of racecars over the last 10 years on both dirt and asphalt, including the NASCAR Canada Series. 

“I don't know if it was the coolest but definitely the most nail-biting experience was learning CTMP (Mosport) for the first time ever while it was raining hard,” he shared. “It's such a fast track and I was just trying to keep it on the asphalt. Toronto Indy twice was also very cool. We ran top-six in the NASCAR Canada race at Ohsweken all race long until 10 to go and got spun by a lap car. That sucked, but it was great to show we could run with the big teams. 

“The one Ohsweken race I picked up a car from Larry Jackson the day before the race; it had been his show car for two years and was an old road course car. We didn't even scale the car, showed up and ran top-ten in it. We also qualified top 10 in the NASCAR Canada race at Cayuga Speedway. We ran the 2006 World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna Speedway in a super late but it was like bringing a knife to a gunfight. We were totally unprepared. 

“I tried out for a racing reality show sponsored by Budweiser about 15 years ago, and got to test an RCR ARCA car with 800 horsepower at Little Rock Speedway. The last time I was in a super was at Flamboro; we qualified fifth in time trials, and then the cars engine grenaded in warm up laps for the feature. I thought that was the end for me but now I'm getting another chance so I'm very grateful.”

For Monaghan, racing is something that has been in the genes even before he was born. His grandfather Dick and uncle Dan raced late models and super late models against the likes of Junior Hanley, Don Biederman, Rich Grady and Pete Shepherd, to NASCAR stars like Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt. This would see Monaghan spending time in the shop as a kid until when he turned 15, and they asked him if he wanted to race himself. 

He then got behind the wheel of a street stock built by Mike Pulton Jr at Flamboro Speedway and he has been racing ever since. It’s also why nobody is surprised to see the No. 04 on his car, being that it’s his family number.
