Kevin Cornelius and Allen Adams Excited About Partnership for Hot Rod Season

TORONTO, Ontario --- After years of being a front running competitor in the Overkill Enterprises OSCAAR Modified tour, ADAMS Motorsports will expand their footprint in OSCAAR, set to run the full The Fyre Place & Patio Shop OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Bromley Automotive schedule in 2026.

"Kind of excited to get the Hot Rod out," ADAMS Motorsports team owner Allen Adams said. "Going to be fun having a returning driver to the series - that's what my thoughts is that the hot rods should be about getting some of these guys back behind the wheel of a car. I know Kevin (Cornelius)'s kind of nervous about getting back behind the wheel, but I think it's going to be just like getting back on a bicycle. The car is 400 horsepower less than what he's used to, so that should be helpful a lot, and as long as I do my homework in the shop, I think we should put them where he needs to be."

It was revealed at the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo that they will have 2015 JRS Auctions OSCAAR Super Late Models presented by Just Foam It Champion Kevin Cornelius behind the wheel.

"I'm just hoping he can find some training wheels or something to put on it," Cornelius joked. "But yeah like you said, nervous and I'm sure there'll be some excitement when we roll into Flamboro in May to do a little test and tune, but just looking forward to getting going and just seeing if we can still do it even."

The partnership comes about through a long-time friendship between the pair, and a series of respect.

"Allen and Diana have fielded of car for multiple years and it takes a lot of passion and dedication for people to do that, so it was an honor for them to ask and I wasn't going to say no," Cornelius said.

This was something that almost happened sooner than now through some fun messages back and forth. Adams had messaged Cornelius about something a couple years back, and Cornelius joked back that he thought he was messaging to ask him to run the modified.

"We kind of put it on the back burner back-and-forth and he retired," Adams shared. "Everybody knows my history Luke (Gignac). With Luke buying his own hot rod - I won't say screwed my plans up, but it made him move on to his own car. We still work together in the shop and everything, and I've been battling trying to find a driver for the last couple of years. Kevin and I talked last year and just couldn't make all the irons in the fire and this year I just made the decision that he's the driver."

The pair are hoping to run the full schedule this season, however Adams admits they may miss the pair of races at Delaware Speedway as he "doesn't know if the money and our funding will allow for it this year."

"Our plans for this year is to knock the rust off this fella and see what we need to do for the setup and get it dialed in," Adams added. "Then we'll decide where we're going from there for next year."

As previously alluded to, Cornelius is a past OSCAAR Champion, having picked up the 2015 Super Late Model title. He also won the Sunset Speedway Late Model Championship in 2011.

"It feels like a lifetime ago since then," Cornelius commented. "My father-in-law (Dick Launspach) passed on who obviously was a big part of that, but yeah just honestly, I feel like I'm coming back as a rookie."

Adams' experience in OSCAAR runs just a deep, having picked up an OSCAAR Modified Championship with Luke Gignac in 2017. He has been involved himself now as a car owner for the past 14 years.

"To be totally honest, when Barrie Speedway closed, I had nowhere else to go and I bought the mod and joined on with OSCAAR," Adams reflected. "The Mods and the OSCAAR series are still the best bang for the buck for your program and I've always loved the hot rods. I've actually built two and I sold one off, and this is the second one I've been building and we're gonna see where this car goes. It's basically the same chassis as my championship mod other than as perimeter and there's nothing in it that I don't know how to tweak and adjust."

That should mean no pressure on both sides, right?

"We both have agreed on the fact this year to let's make it fun," Adams continued. "If it's fun then we'll be competitive. As long as we're competitive each time we show up - for lack of a better word, I'm a top-five guy. I'm not meaning that in saying there is more pressure; it's just we always run there."
